Professor Yang Haiping from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Professor Lu Qiang from North China Electric Power University were invited to our institution to give academic presentations

On the afternoon of October 12th, Professor Yang Haiping from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Professor Lu Qiang from North China Electric Power University were invited to our institution for academic exchange and guidance. The academic presentations took place in Room 616 of Shenghua Building on Tunxi Road campus, with Professor Lu Yang, the Vice Dean of the Research Institute, presiding over the Shenghua Salon. Approximately 100 faculty and students from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering attended the presentations.



Professor Yang Haiping delivered a lecture on "Research and Reflection on High-Quality Negative Carbon Utilization of Biomass." Beginning with the responsibilities of researchers, Professor Yang explained the significance of scientific research, especially to the present faculty and students, particularly graduate students. He provided guidance on how to conduct scientific research. Subsequently, Professor Yang addressed the significant issues facing energy and elaborated on the technology of high-quality negative carbon utilization of biomass. He discussed in detail the thermal conversion behaviors of biomass, control mechanisms for high-yield products, and co-production technologies of high-quality products. Finally, he emphasized the importance of biomass development from low-carbon and zero-carbon to negative carbon, the construction of a new technological system, and introduced new technologies such as multi-energy and multi-field collaborative coupling, new energy conversion, and intelligence, along with the research work of the team. After the lecture, Professor Yang Haiping engaged in discussions with the attending teachers and students about new considerations in the negative carbon utilization of biomass.



Professor Lu Qiang's presentation was titled "High-Value Utilization of Biomass Pyrolysis - Basic Research, Technology Development, and Equipment R&D." He conducted research on the key foundations and technical bottlenecks of biomass pyrolysis utilization. Firstly, he introduced the pyrolysis reaction mechanisms of the three major components of biomass. He then discussed the targeted regulation mechanism of biomass pyrolysis components and described in detail the preparation technology routes for different high-value-added products. Finally, he proposed optimization strategies and solutions for the challenges of multi-co-production and equipment technology in pyrolysis. Additionally, he introduced the integrated equipment and typical applications of gas-solid dual-cycle pyrolysis technology, static-to-rotating pyrolysis technology, and rotating stepwise pyrolysis technology. After the presentation, Professor Lu Qiang engaged in discussions with the attending faculty and students.



The excellent presentations by Professor Yang Haiping and Professor Lu Qiang helped students and faculty in the field of biomass to understand the current research progress and application prospects of biomass utilization. They also inspired the faculty and students of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to maintain a rigorous academic attitude and the courage to innovate in scientific research, encouraging them to actively engage in the path of research and learning with greater enthusiasm.
